Wallace & Doyle is a Vermont rod builder specializing in custom fly rods and custom bass rods, each one hand-built to order in South Hero, Vermont. Every blank is built, wrapped, and finished by hand for the angler and the water it's made for. No factory runs, no off-the-rack rods.
Wallace & Doyle has been building fishing rods since 1984, taking the name Wallace & Doyle in 2015. We build fully custom carbon and fiberglass rods, made to order, from ultralight all the way up to heavy baitcasting, with a focus on inshore and fly rods. We don't make bamboo.
Every rod is built around the finest components we can find, with an emphasis on USA-made hardware from names like North Fork Components, Rod Forge, St. Croix, REC, Snake Brand, Lemke, and Struble. We turn our own grips and inserts from cork, EVA, and hardwoods, and custom-wrap the weaves and guides by hand.
Alongside rods, we craft bent-lamination landing nets and wood fly boxes from Vermont hardwoods. We mill our own rough-sawn lumber and steam and form each net by hand, with a range of hoop and handle options. Our first net was built in 2025, and like everything we make, it's meant to be heirloom quality.
Our studio sits on the shores of Lake Champlain, which doubles as the testing ground for everything we build. Whether it's a retirement gift or a serious angler's next favorite rod, we build it one at a time, for the water it's headed to.
Reach out with the water you fish and what you're looking for, and we'll go from there.
